Review: Griffin PowerDuo Reserve for iPhone

If you’re a heavy iPhone user like myself then you fully understand how much it sucks to run out of battery, when you’re on the go. Griffin Technology has provided us with a great accessory to solve this common issue. It’s called PowerDuo Reserve and its basically a detachable battery that plugs in the bottom of your iPhone and provides a quick boost. The neat thing about the PowerDuo is that it features both a AC charger and a cigarette lighter adapter, allowing you to charge the battery pretty much anywhere. What’s even better is that the PowerDuo also allows you to plug a USB cable (for another iPhone/iPod or BlackBerry) and charge that device. This will ensure that you never have to sacrifice only charging one device.
As soon as you take the PowerDuo out of the box, you will notice its small and compact size. This will come in handy while on the go, and will allow you to carry it in almost any situation. After testing the PowerDuo a few times and letting my iPhone battery die almost all the way, it the PowerDuo seems to give a charge of about 30% within a short period of time. While the PowerDuo may not compete with extended battery packs such as mophie Juicepack air, it is much smaller, and detachable, so you can remove it at any time. The Griffin PowerDuo Reserve is a great Reserve tank for your iPhone, and is great if you’re always running out of battery.
Conclusion
The PowerDuo Reserve brings several great features into one small package. You get an AC adapter, car charger, and a detachable
battery all-in-one. While it doesn’t fully charge your iPhone, it will certainly help you get through those low battery situations when you’re out and about. One thing I was quite happy with is the PowerDuo still plugged into my iPhone when using either an iSkin or OtterBox commuter case. I would imagine it will fit almost any case (including ones from Griffin). I just wish Griffin was able to pack a little strong battery into that tiny package to fully charge my iPhone… Wishful thinking? I guess so. If you’re thinking about purchasing a PowerDuo from Griffin just remember it is not to be used as an extended battery, and rather as a reserve battery pack. The PowerDuo Reserve which we reviewed currently retails for approximately $59.99 USD, however if you don’t need the car charger adapter you can purchase the PowerBlock Reserve for about $39.99.
