Review: Case-Mate Gelli Skin for Apple iPad

Since getting my iPad a month ago, I’ve been on the search for some of the best cases for it. Today I’m checking out Case-Mate’s Gelli Skin, which is a form fitted skin, available in several colors with designs in the transparent back. I recently received the Gelli Skin in checkmate gray from Case-Mate to see what I thought and how it stacks up to other cases I’ve tested. Case-Mate currently offers the Gelli Skins in two different patterns (checkmate and kaleidoscope) in three different colors each. The Gelli Case we reviewed is the gray colored checkmate design.
At first glance you will notice how form fitted and snug it fits to your iPad. The checkmate design in the back is actually pretty cool. It doesn’t stand out too much, or draw too much attention to your iPad. Because the skin is semi-transparent it still allows you to see the back or the device, including the Apple logo, size and serial numbers. Since getting the Gelli case its pretty much become my day to day case that I take with me around the house. I am very impressed with how snug it fits, and how thin it really is. One thing that you will notice when purchasing the Gelli skin is that it doesn’t include a screen protector in the box. Luckily I still had another screen protector on my iPad from a previous review. One question I was asked by someone who was looking at my case is does it fit in the Apple iPad dock or keyboard docking station? While I don’t use either of these items myself, according the Case-Mate it will not fit. Even though it is such a thin design apparently Apple didn’t leave enough room to have a case on your iPad while its docked. Other than that I have no complaints about the case. I would recommend it to anyone who normally doesn’t like bulky cases, and just wants some simple protection for their iPad. Check out the pictures below to get a better feel for the case.
Pros: Form fitted, access to all ports, very slim profile, cool color options (gray, blue or green)
Cons: No screen protector included
Conclusion: Overall I really like the Gelli Skin for the iPad, and I may even consider getting one for my iPhone 4. The Gelli Skin is super fitted and goes on snug, so you’ll never have to worry about it coming off by accident. The only thing I didn’t like about this case is that Case-Mate doesn’t include a screen protector with it, although they do offer screen protectors on their website for $24.99. As I said above this case is strongly recommended to anyone looking for a thin protective case, with some grip, but isn’t looking to make their device huge and bulky. Case-Mate offers the Gelli skins in three different colors for each design. Check them out on their website here. If you have any questions about this case feel free to leave a comment below and I’ll be sure to answer them.
Where to Buy: You can pick up the Case-Mate Gelli Skin for the iPad from the Accessorize Mobile Shop for $35, or from Case-Mate.com for $39.99.
